FAQ

Every shop has there own systems and getting tattooed can introduce a tone of questions. This section is to answer the most common questions about the process with Black Fish Tattoo

How do you determine the price of the tattoo? Is there a shop minimum?

Most tattoos are charged per hour. My rate is $150 per hour. If I determine a tattoo will take me 1.5 hours or less I will price it out by the piece and let you know that price quote ahead of getting the tattoo. Hourly pieces cannot be given a solid price quote, but sometimes a time range can be estimated to give you a general idea of price. You can set the amount of hours your would like to do in a single session with a minimum of 1 hour. The shop minimum is $80. That means all tattoos start a $80 and cannot be any cheaper. An $80 is a tattoo that on the smaller side, uses one type of needle, one color and is placed in an easy to tattoo area of the body.

What is your availability? Do you need to put down a deposit to book an appointment?

I book weekdays only, NO WEEKENDS. Friday only for appointments longer than 3 hours.
Availability varies from a month to 6 months on average. Feel free to direct message me on Instagram to ask my current availability.
A non-refundable $80 deposit is required to book any project. This deposit will come off the price of the tattoo once it is completed. You only need to put one deposit down on multi-session project, but it will not be used until the last session. No deposit is required for touch up appointments.Though the deposit is non-refundable I am always happy to work with you on rescheduling if you cannot make your appointment as long as you contact me in advance of your appointment. The only ways to loose your deposit are:
1) No call no show for your appointment (contacting me after the appointment time will still count as a no call no show).
2) Changing your design idea completely. Each design requires it's own deposit to cover the work put in to designing and drawing it.
3) Re-booking more than 4 times.

How long of an appointment can I book?

There is a minimum of 1 hour and a max of 4 hour appointments for hourly projects. A project that will take more than 4 hours will need to be split into multiple sessions. Small projects have no time constraints.

I am nervous about a custom design, what if I don't like it?

You will never be stuck with a design you don't like. If you are at all nervous about design, please request to see it in advance of the appointment and I will make sure to send you a line drawing at least a week before the appointment time. I am happy to adjust or change anything you are not happy with. I will never be offended if you need to make changes and we can make as many as we need to so that you will be happy with your design.

Do you use saniderm?

Yes, my preferred method of bandage is Saniderm, however, I also use co-ban and can do traditional bandaging for anyone who prefers that.

Tattoo After Care
If you experience anything you find abnormal or are even the slightest bit worried about with your healing tattoo, please contact me immediately for follow up.

What To Expect: It is normal for your tattoo to be tender, itchy and red. Sometimes a tattoo may ooze clear or ink colored fluid and/or feel sore in the first week. The tattoo will normally develop a thin crust that will flake and peel away (similar to a sunburn) and sometimes larger scabs can develop, both are normal. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your tattoo please contact me.Taking Off Your Bandage: depending on your preference, I will either use a saniderm bandage, or a co-ban bandage.Saniderm: you can choose to leave your Saniderm bandage on up to 7 days, but if needed you can take it off at any time, including the first day. Saniderm will protect your tattoo during the healing process and help it heal faster. Take your Saniderm bandage off if: 1) the bandage begins to leak blood or fluid 2) outside moisture gets into your bandage 3) skin irritation occursCoban: Coban is a pressure wrap used with a soft pad to absorb bleeding and fluid during the first few hours after your tattoo. Leave this bandage on for 2-4 hours, no less and no longer and be in a clean environment before removing your bandage.Bandage Removal:
-When you are ready to take off your bandage be home and ready to properly wash it. Once your bandage comes off you do not re-apply it.
-Wash your tattoo with liquid hand soap from a pump (gentle/mild formula) and your fingertips only. NEVER scrub with a luffa or a poof. I recommend Dr. Bronners Magic Soap Unscented.
DO NOT USE: bar soap, dish soap, antibacterial soap or body wash.
-After washing, pat dry with a clean paper towel. NEVER leave your tattoo wet.Everyday Care:
-Wash your tattoo at least once a day and if it gets dirty throughout the day. Try to avoid over washing as this will cause damage to your tattoo.
-The day after you get your tattoo or if you use a saniderm bandage, the day you take the saniderm off is when you start using an aftercare product. Always wash your hands before applying an aftercare product. When applying, make sure you use a very small amount (the size of a grain of rice) at a time. Put it on your fingertips first and work it between your fingertips before applying it to the tattoo. You do NOT want your tattoo looks shiny, wet, or moist with aftercare product.-Apply aftercare product regularly with every wash after drying the tattoo. You may also apply if your tattoo if feeling uncomfortably dry or itchy. How often you apply aftercare product depends on the persons body and where the tattoo is located.
Recommended Aftercare Products: Tatwax or white unscented lotion
What To Avoid:
-NEVER soak your tattoo in water. Showers are ok, but no prolonged showers, baths, hot tubs or swimming while your tattoo is healing.
-NO tanning of any kind during the healing process. Avoid the sun or cover tattoo if sun exposure is unavoidable. Once tattoo is healed, always use sunscreen during sun exposure. Sun exposure if the reason tattoos fade, blow out and ware over time.NEVER USE: Pure aloe, alcohol, Neosporin, triple-anti-biotic ointment, or Vaseline as a healing
